The romantic drama "Dear John" has knocked the sci-fi blockbuster "Avatar" off its No. 1 box-office perch.
"Dear John" debuted with $30.5 million, nudging "Avatar" to second-place with $22.9 million.
"Avatar," which had been No. 1 for seven weekends, raised its revenue records to $639.3 million domestically and $2.2 billion worldwide.

The Nielsen Co. says the Super Bowl got its highest overnight ratings in 23 years.
It means, when final figures are released later Monday, there's a strong likelihood the game will be the most-watched Super Bowl ever. Last year's game between Pittsburgh and Arizona has that distinction, with 98.7 million viewers.
The quick measurement of the nation's 55 biggest media markets gave the New Orleans-Indianapolis game a 46.4 rating. Last year's game had an overnight measurement of 42

Sidestepping the usual slapstick comedy and animal tricks, a number of advertisers tried to score during Sunday's Super Bowl with commercials that tapped into men's ambivalence with their everyday lives.

"Dancing with the Stars'" Karina Smirnoff said Saturday she won't reveal who she wants to win the Super Bowl because she doesn't know who is going to be on the show next season.
"I don't want to put my foot in my mouth," she said at the home of director Michael Bay, who was hosting a party during Super Bowl weekend.
Smirnoff said she hopes she will be called back to the show for the next season.
